Rum Boogie Cafe
182 Beale St.
901-528-0150

Situated on the northwest corner of one of America's greatest musical crossroads (Beale St. & Highway 61), Rum Boogie Cafe is the club not to miss when you visit Memphis. Since it opened in 1985, Rum Boogie has helped lead the renaissence of Beale from a delapidated eyesore in the 70s to the thriving music mecca it is today.

Rum Boogie's reputation is such that it appeals to the casual tourist and the blues & memphis music purist simaltaneously. Even in the earliest days of the Beale revival Rum Boogie made the committment to feature live music 7 days a week. In 1985 that was unheard of, especially in downtown Memphis and frankly is still a rarity in the city today. The word spread and folks began to come in droves to see real Delta blues and local stars like Rufas Thomas. Somehow word got around to the famous musicians of the day and it became a somewhat common occurance to see a musical celebrity slipping in to jam with the band under the original STAX neon or to sit quietly at a table in a corner, eating gumbo and taking it all in. That's how the guitar collection got started.

First it was Billy Gibbon's of Z.Z. Top. He brought in a guitar and while he ate he doodled a self portrait and ufos attacking the Memphis bridge. When he left, the guitar stayed as a gift to the club. Since then, everyone from blues greats to famous rockers to Superbowl QBs have entered the Boogie and autographed a guitar to hang in the rafters.

In 2007 the Rum Boogie Cafe was named the winner of the prestigious "Keeping the Blues Alive" Award for its ongoing dedication to promoting blues music and supporting blues musicians. It has been named by Memphis Magazine as the "Most Authentic Beale Street Bar".

So come in, enjoy some award-winning gumbo or hickory smoked BBQ ribs, knock back a few of your favorite beverages, and listen to the best live music in the city.

Open 11 am - 3 am.
